autodealer is basically Matt Richter and a whole bunch of broken guitar gear and a newfound basic understanding of Ableton Live. He started playing under the autodealer moniker in 2002, playing frequently around San Luis Obispo. He opened for bands like The Swords Project, MONO, Maserati, Landing and others. autodealer is essentially a studio project now, as Matt is a raging workaholic and doesn't really have time to figure out how to replicate his sound live now. I mean, come on, there's like 12 of him on each track. But he is making an honest effort that, once safe, he'll perform live again.
In his spare time (insert laugh track here) he serves as half of the experimental ambient folk pop duo Lanfair Field with Bobby McElver. They've known each other for, like, forever, and have made music together off and on for almost as long. It makes more sense musically than autodealer, but Bobby knows what he's doing. Together they've released an EP, recorded at least one other (if Bobby ever gets it mixed) and wrote and recorded the score to the play "Asleep On A Bicycle" for the Elephant Theatre Company in Los Angeles.
So I think that's basically it, yeah? Here's a picture of Matt enjoying some time in the sun. Photo by the amazing Ken Sawyer.
